i think we have to get things done in washington. but when we have a debt the size of the debt we have, the tea party is really the ones who have woken us up to it and made us think this is the nation's number one problem and it must be tackled. we can't make the usual compromises of the past. we have to do fundamental big things. so i'm with them on that principle, focus on the debt, make meaningful, not temporary solutions to the debt. but at the end of the day, i do want to compromise. let me point one thing out. when you did have the boehner/obama compromise on debt limit, that was supported by two-thirds of house freshmen. only 50% of the democratic members voted for it. so there's also a bit of a mislabeling going on here. they did compromise on that debt limit agreement. the liberal caucus in the democratic party was not as willing to compromise. >> but it's -- >> you have to look at it issue by issue, not paint with too broad a brush. >> but it is interesting specifically on obama care, speaker boehner said today obama care i

i'm chris matthews in washington. let me start with this. president obama has got a spring in his step this friday before the election propelled by a good week on the job and 171,000 new jobs in this morning's report. he's out there in ohio fighting the good fight. i only make predictions when people make me make them, but the trajectory, the momentum, now seems pro-obama. pennsylvania will hold, ohio looks good but close, and all the battlegrounds look winnable for the president. the huge question is turnout, that and rational self-interest. the young who believe in science, women who believe in protecting their rights, latinos who can see a brighter future with a supportive president all need to get out, show up, and vote. there's no reward for a failure. in a free society, a democratic society is a failure, deeply personal, you blew it if you don't vote. let's see where it stands. i'm joined by mother jones washington bureau chief david corn and joy reid. do you think i'm a little strong? >> no. >> i don't want to talk to anybody after th

most of washington is below freezing too except right on the potomac. as we look what's been going on the last 12 hours, just a few clouds drifting over. dry air in place through the region. this developing coastal low right now is a midlevel disturbance over georgia and the carolinas into florida. looks like it's going to be tracking off the coast. unlike yesterday where it's looking like it's going to be closer to the coast, now it's looking like it's going to be farther out to sea, which is better news for the troubled areas here from the jersey coast and up towards new york city and long island because of that. let's go forward here. this is as of 5:00 tomorrow morning. coastal low developing. farther out to sea, bringing some rain into the eastern shore and perhaps around southern maryland and northern neck. by noontime, 1:00, the precipitation drawing in some cold air may be changing to wet snow for the eastern suburbs and around the bay. i don't think anything is going to stick. if it does happen, it will be melting on roadways. that may continue
